Defiance Clinic welcomes three new healthcare providers
-
They are: Muktak Mathur, M.D., night hospitalist, Holly E. Ferris, PA-C (certified physician assistant), Internal Medicine, and Kori L. Strubing, MSN, CNP (certified nurse practitioner), to Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Mather
Dr. Mathur, a Family Practice physician, joins J.D. Reeves, M.D., who continues as daytime hospitalist. The hospitalists manage the patients’ care while they are in the hospital and work closely with the patients’ primary care physicians.
“Hospital medicine is an evolving specialized field of medicine where specially trained physicians provide quality care to the hospitalized patients,” Dr. Mathur said. “It involves providing for the total well being of acutely ill patients.”
“I decided to be a hospitalist as it not only offers me academic stimulation but also provides me an opportunity to connect with my patients’” he added. “Patients are uncomfortable and often nervous when they are admitted to the hospital. They are frequently in need of more information, and they feel a lack of control. I believe in communicating and comforting my patients and involving them in their healthcare.”
In addition to his work in Defiance, Dr. Mathur is also involved in a multi-centric clinical trial on diabetes being funded by the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, MD.
Holly Ferris
“The physician assistant (P.A.) profession was designed to ‘fill the gap’ where need is greatest in healthcare,” she explained. “I chose to pursue a career as a P.A. because I have a strong interest in primary care medicine, and that is currently an area where healthcare providers are needed.”
“I believe in providing thorough, yet cost-effective, healthcare,” she continued, “and I think it’s essential to answer patients’ questions and educate them about preventive measures as well as disease processes.”
Ms. Ferris received her Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Findlay in 2006 and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, in April, 2009. Before graduating, she completed part of her clinical practicum at Defiance Clinic.
Kori Strubing
“My goal is to empower our patients to make healthy decisions regarding lifestyle and treatment options by offering individualized, personalized care with an emphasis on education and wellness promotion,” she said.
Mrs. Strubing, a resident of Hicksville and a graduate of Fairview High School, recently completed her Master of Science in Nursing degree at Indiana Wesleyan University in Fort Wayne, IN, and fulfilled Ohio’s nurse practitioner certification and licensing requirements. She had earned her associate degree in nursing from Northwest State Community College in 1995 and her Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2000. She has extensive experience as a hospital nurse, most recently in the Emergency Center at Mercy Hospital of Defiance.
